I became a doula because I believe that birth is a normal process of life, not a condition that must be treated. Presently I am certified as a doula and pursuing certification as a childbirth educator through Childbirth International . I am returning to school to pursue my BS and achieve my RN, with the end goal being my MS in Midwifery. I am a stay at home mom to one son who was born in January of 2004 in a hospital setting with a cascade of interventions following an elective induction. I learned a lot from that birth, the first and most important being to trust in birth and the birthing process. My son was a posterior birth with a face presentation he came vaginally with a failed epidural. Anyone who tells you you can't birth a baby that way is wrong, he was 9 pounds when he was born and he makes me proud to be a mom everyday. I believe that all women deserve to be heard and that every woman has the right to make her own choices about her birth experience and deserves to be supported in those choices.
